Flight Information
Flights Soccer is for boys and girls approximately 5-12 years old (birth years 2014 to 2020) who wish to experience soccer in a recreational setting.
Flights sessions run for eight weeks beginning in September for the fall and April for the spring.
Players will be contacted with team assignments approximately two weeks before the start of Flights.
BPSA assigns players to teams by birth year based on age brackets mandated by US Youth Soccer and which can be found on our website. Flight roster assignments are determined by creating a mix of coed teams similar in age and gender which allow players to play with new teammates whom they might otherwise not have an opportunity to meet. As such, we do not guarantee special requests for coaches or team placement.
Teams formed in the fall typically remain together in the following spring season and use the previous jersey color if most players return. Reasons for teams not remaining the same from fall to spring include significant changes in enrollment numbers, coaching availability, and maintaining team sizes that allow for 50% playing time. All teams will be re-rostered at the beginning of the fall season to ensure players have an opportunity to play with new coaches and teams.
Our community organization is possible only because of its members (all players’ families) who share their time to volunteer. We do our best to pair you up with one or two other coaches (no heads or assistants needed: just cover for one other whenever necessary). BPSA’s expectation is that at least two adults from your team’s families volunteer to coach (no head or assistant coaches- help out however you can!). Your team will not be able to receive rostering or schedule information until two coaches from your team have registered and submitted all required clearances.
Exceptions
Flight 4
Because flight 4 spans two birth years (U9 and U10), teams may not be identical from spring to fall seasons. BPSA must consider creating balanced teams which include younger incoming flight 3 players with little 7v7 experience, older flight 4 players returning for their second season, and a fair distribution of new and travel players among all teams.
Flight 5
This flight consists of Saturday-games only and encourages players of all backgrounds to participate including those trying soccer for the first time, those wanting to continue playing recreationally, and those seeking more playing time. Teams may be re-rostered every fall and spring to address any issues in balancing.
